If you are interested in working with children, please know that before you begin working as a volunteer you will need to hand in a valid police clearance certificate along with your other application documents. Police clearance certificate are a legal requirement of the South Africa Child Care and must be adhered to. These certificates are essential in ensuring the safety of our children, which is our priority at all times.

Holiday Friends Programmes

Some of our children are lucky enough to be able to return to their family homes. We always give preference to placements at biological parents. There is however another few of our children who are looking forward toward experiencing someone else's home for the duration of a weekend or a holiday.

Purpose of weekend and holiday parents

  • To provide a home to the children who cannot go to their own parents over weekends or during holidays;
  • To give the children a chance to become part of a small family unit on a part-time basis;
  • To give them a chance to learn about a healthy family environment and about family responsibilities;
  • To provide them with a place to socialise and help to adapt outside the CYCC environment.

“Going away hamper” for our school leavers

At the end of the year, there will be children leaving the CYCC as their home for the past few years. Some of them grew up in the CYCC as from 2/3 years of age and are now going into the adult world with the same needs as a child from a family home. Like any parent we are sad and also excited at the thought of the big step. We believe that we have given them roots to help establish them in the world and that it is now time to give them wings to fly in pursuit of their dreams. To make this new journey just a little bit easier we would love to give each of them a “going away hamper”. This hamper is to help them with their basic needs at the exhilarating and scary time of their lives.

We want to bid them farewell with some of the following items:

House Andrew Murray Children’s Home cares for 155 children. We only receive partial funding from the Department of Social Development: Western Cape, and are therefore dependent upon the generosity of the general public for the continuation of our service delivery to vulnerable and abused children. On top of that we have running costs, maintenance costs and many projects to help our children that we need funds for.
